Let’s be honest: the biggest battle we face isn’t out there in the world. It’s the tug-of-war within ourselves, between our heart’s deepest longings and our mind and its fears. We’re caught in a loop, constantly wrestling with what we truly want because, frankly, our minds are dead scared of the heart’s yearnings. We set these grand visions for our lives, yet we can’t seem to live up to them because fear has us on a tight leash.
Here’s the kicker: it’s impossible to live a fulfilling life that way.
You can’t chase dreams with your heart locked in a cage.
Whatever your vision of a dream life is, I promise you, it includes your heart wide open, fully giving and receiving love.
And this brings us to a concept that feels almost revolutionary in our fast-paced, hyper-rational society: surrender.
Surrender to Your Heart
When we talk about surrendering, it’s not about giving up or throwing in the towel. It’s about finally surrendering to yourself, to your heart. It’s about stopping the internal fight and letting love lead the way: returning into alignment within. Yeah, I know, it sounds like a Hallmark card. But stick with me here.
To surrender also means to accept that everything has its price. It means understanding that fulfilling our heart’s longings takes commitment, effort, courage, and dedication.
We can either continue to struggle with fear or bend the knee to love.
Believe me, bending the knee to love isn’t a walk in the park — it’s the brave path that demands everything you’ve got, so you can finally have everything you truly want.
Fear and Longing: Two Sides of the Same Coin
Here’s a wild thought: the things we want the most are also what we fear the most. The things you’re most terrified of in life are intimately connected to what you want the most. It’s no wonder we get paralyzed at times, unable to move towards our dreams. The mind, in its infinite quest to keep us safe, creates a labyrinth of fears around our deepest yearnings.
Think about it. If you crave deep, meaningful connections, your biggest fear might be rejection or vulnerability. If you dream of creating something groundbreaking, you’re probably haunted by the fear of failure. The heart says, “Go for it!” while the mind screams, “Stay safe!”. In this way, you can only get to what you want by overcoming your fear — by becoming safe with what you want.
Contrary to what many people think, we are not wired to look for joy, but to remain safe.
The result is we stay in our comfort zone, within the realm of what we see as normal and safe. At the same time, we are here to grow and expand, which goes against what we are wired for. This is one of the great paradoxes of life.
What this means is that we are to rewire ourselves. The way out is to learn to be safe as we expand and keep growing, releasing from fear and embracing love. Here is an article where I explore this idea in more depth:

Living with an Open Heart
Don’t get me wrong, living with an open heart isn’t a walk in the park. It takes clarity, discernment, courage, discipline, and devotion.
This life will give you every reason to be suspicious, fearful, and doubtful, and you need to use your resources to stay centered in your heart and not give in. But what is the other option? To not be in your heart, and continue with the struggle of fear.
In a mental society that worships logic and reason, choosing to live from the heart demands much more energy than sticking to the status quo.
It’s a radical act of defiance against a world that tells us to play it safe and keep our guard up.
Living from the heart means stepping up and expanding your life. Your heart knows there is more to life, that there is much more in store for you. Living from the heart means embracing uncertainty, being okay with the fact that things might not always work out as planned, but that we have all it takes to take care of ourselves. It means being safe within yourself.
And guess what? When we surrender to our hearts, we open ourselves to possibilities we couldn’t have imagined. When everything is uncertain, everything is possible.
The Courage to Surrender
So, how do we muster the courage to surrender? Start by acknowledging your fears and understanding that they’re not the enemy. Instead, learn from your fears: what are they showing you about what truly matters to you and what you yearn for in life?
Next, make a commitment to listen to your heart. Spend time in silence, away from the noise of daily life, and tune into what your heart is saying. It might be scary at first, but the more you practice, the clearer it will become. The voice of the mind is much louder than the voice of the heart, they operate in different frequencies, meaning we need to cultivate this space for deep listening.
Most importantly, take aligned action. Even small steps toward your heart’s longings can create a ripple effect that transforms your life. Whether it’s having a vulnerable conversation, pursuing a passion project, or simply allowing yourself to feel deeply, each act of courage strengthens your heart’s voice.
Embrace the Journey
Surrendering to your heart isn’t a one-time deal. It’s a daily practice, a journey of continually choosing love over fear. As you keep showing up to your heart, you start crystallizing a new pattern, until it becomes who you are.
There will be moments of doubt when you question whether it’s worth it. Those are the moments that matter most. Those are the times when surrendering to love will bring you closer to the life you truly want. Those are the times you are committing to love.
By listening and embracing your heart, you start dissolving your inner struggles. Bending your knee to your heart and accepting the price of that which you want the most will make you incredibly stronger, allowing you step up, be who you came here to be, and live fully.
